You’ve just walked out of your appointment with silky-smooth skin and not a razor in sight — now what?
Whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned waxing client, knowing what to do after your wax is key to keeping your skin calm, hydrated, and bump-free.

Waxing removes hair from the root, which means your skin is slightly more sensitive than usual for a few days. The good news? A few simple aftercare tips go a long way in preventing irritation and encouraging healthy, glowing skin.

👉 New to waxing? Before your appointment, check out our post on Preparing for Your First Waxing Appointment — it’s full of tips to help you feel confident and ready.

👖 1. Skip the Tight Clothes

As tempting as it might be to slide into your favorite leggings or a snug pair of jeans, your freshly waxed skin needs room to breathe.

Instead:
Opt for loose, breathable fabrics like cotton or linen. This helps prevent rubbing, irritation, and bacteria buildup — especially around areas like your bikini line, underarms, or thighs.

📌 Pro Tip: This is your excuse to stay comfy — go with lounge wear for 24–48 hours.

💦 2. Avoid Sweating and Heavy Activity

Working out, sitting in a sauna, or even just sweating from the Texas heat can lead to post-wax breakouts or clogged follicles.

Give your skin 24–48 hours to chill.
Avoid:

  • Intense workouts
  • Hot yoga
  • Steam rooms or saunas
  • Long exposure to direct sun

This gives your pores a chance to close back up and helps reduce redness or inflammation.

🚿 3. Shower, Don’t Soak

It might sound like the perfect time for a bath, but a long soak in a tub (or hot tub!) right after a wax is a no-go.

Instead:
Take a warm (not hot) shower to gently rinse your skin without overdoing it. Skip the scrubs, exfoliants, or perfumed body washes — your skin needs time to recover.

Let it rest. Let it heal. Give it love, not scrubbing.

🧴 4. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate

Moisturizing is your best friend post-wax — but how and when you do it makes a difference.

Apply lotion or a gentle body oil to damp skin, right after your shower. This helps lock in moisture and reduce the chances of ingrown hairs. Look for products with soothing, non-comedogenic ingredients like:

  • Aloe vera
  • Jojoba oil
  • Chamomile
  • Squalane

Avoid anything with alcohol, heavy fragrances, or acids right after your wax.

🧽 5. Exfoliate — But Wait a Few Days

Exfoliation helps prevent ingrown hairs and keeps your skin feeling smooth — but freshly waxed skin needs time to heal first.

Wait 48 to 72 hours after your wax before exfoliating.

Once your skin has settled, use a gentle exfoliant 2–3 times a week. This helps remove dead skin cells and clears the way for hair to grow back properly — not curl back under the surface.

Try:

  • A sugar scrub
  • A soft washcloth or exfoliating mitt
  • A gentle AHA body wash (glycolic or lactic acid)

📌 Fancy’s Tip: Always follow exfoliation with a hydrating lotion or body oil to protect your skin barrier and keep things smooth and balanced.

To keep your skin smooth and irritation-free, avoid these common post-waxing mistakes:

  • ❌ Don’t exfoliate right away (wait 2–3 days)
  • ❌ Don’t tan or sit in direct sun
  • ❌ Don’t use deodorant or scented lotion on waxed areas
  • ❌ Don’t touch or pick at the skin — let it heal naturally
